It's All About Overland Adventure

Whether you're a seasoned veteran with wisdom to share or a complete novice hungry for ideas and guidance, it doesn't matter if you ride a motorcycle, a bicycle, or drive an expedition vehicle...

Horizons Unlimited meetings are for everyone who dreams of adventure along the road less travelled.

Inspiring, Informing & Connecting

Some people value Horizons Unlimited events for what they learn from the unique line-up of presenters. Some people value the chance to discover new products and services at the trade stands. Some people value just kicking back with a beer among old friends and new.

Most people enjoy a little bit of everything, and everyone goes home fired-up for adventure with a smile on their face.

Our travels to date - 15 months and 60,000 km around South America, and hopefully inspire others with the "Travel Bug" to also take the plunge

While on a fishing trip together, we stumbled across the Adventure Film Festival where a chance meeting with fellow overlanders started us on a journey that continues today. We will provide information and inspiration for those considering a similar trip and, in particular, those travelling "two-up". We'll cover topics such as planning, getting our bike ready and the modifications made, problems on the road, gear taken, what has worked and what hasn't worked for us, as well as areas specific to travelling two-up.

DAVID AND EMINA MORIESON are from Melbourne, Australia, and always had a passion for adventure, travel, and motorbikes. David has been rebuilding and riding motorbikes since an early age, and visited all corners of Australia, including crossing the Simpson Desert on a camel. Em has always been passionate for travel that continues even today!

How to Prepare for a Motorcycle Trip

The idea is to prepare and motivate new riders for a motorcycles trip. Andres covers everything from the psychological to the physical, including the equipment you will need, the motorcycle inspections, and trip-related paper work. With two trips around South America, extensive riding all over Ecuador, and more than 10 trips around Peru exploring dirt road and Inca trails under his belt, Andres is well-experienced to provide the valuable information you need for successful adventures.

ANDRES MOLESTINA is 61-years-old and has ridden motor bikes for 40 years. He's a Kawasaki KLR 650 lover and has owned 12 of them. The most isolated places call out to him and he finds them best by exploring secondary dirt roads. He loves to teach new riders and is especially motivated to encourage safe and responsible riding with a respect for nature.

Notier's Frontiers Traveling Tips
Nine months riding 2-up on a KTM1190 from Chicago to Ecuador

Tim and Marisa take you on an escape of the countries they've visited while riding 2-up. In front of a visual backdrop of video and stills for "ambience", learn some of the nuts-and-bolts of adventure travel from "Tim's Top 10 Traveling Tips", the gear they packed, and stories about how they trouble-shooted various issues.

Different outlooks of the world from only inches apart

She has traveled extensively around the world, knows Arabic, Spanish, English, and is now learning Turkish and French. Tim never had a passport until 11 months ago. They're on a 3-year round-the-world journey and it's the first time Tim has left his home country. Together, Marisa and Tim give voice to their somtimes-complementary, sometimes-opposite views of places they have visted, culture and road conditions. How do those views differ from a well-traveled versus first-time perspectives? They both have eyes wide open and spend most of the day only inches apart, but their perspectives of the world as it passes by are drastically different.

Marisa Glass and Tim Notier

MARISA GLASS and TIM NOTIER are a couple from Chicago, Illinois, USA, currently on a 3-year tour around the world. Having travelled two-up on a KTM 1190 Adventure over the last nine months, they have met so many amazing people and seen wonderful sights. Marisa is co-pilot, translator, and cultured while Tim got his first-ever passport just last year.

Motorcycle and Love

Motorcycle and love... you can't live without either of them. In the meantime, Ricardo teaches motorcycling. His love for South America is bountiful and he will share useful information about this beautiful land. He is so super-experienced about traveling in South America that he can stand in front of a South America map and talk about it for hours and hours. If you're a visitor to South America, you will want to chat with Ricardo during this weekend. Hospitality? A lot of experience there, too. Moto Casa was famous in the past and now there's a new Moto house with a thermal water pool and everything.

RICARDO ROCCO is a true nomad... to just go and not come back.

Your host Raul Guarderas tells us:

"Since 2011 we have opened a guest-farm, on an idyllic place surrounded by 7 volcanoes, and along-side a bio-diverse 19 Ha native forest reserve (Silver Medal, Sacha Prize), where we offer hospitality, Ecuadorian cuisine with the products from our garden and dairy products from the farm.

The recently refurbished hacienda-house, with 7 private rooms, offers comfort, uniqueness and an unforgettable experience. Sierra Alisos takes a full service approach including transfer from the airport, any dietary preferences or restrictions, activities such as hiking, horseback riding and mountain-biking available to guest right here on our property. We have earned a special reputation also as a 'bike-friendly place'."
